Nested Menus in Xcelsius

As I work to perfect standardized templates as a starting point for my dashboarding projects, I’ve decided that drop-down menus would be really helpful and could look more professional if executed well.

While I like the slide-out capabilities of the label based menus, they don’t allow you to have nested menus. Here is my first attempt at creating nested menus using OotB functionality. Please feel free to provide feedback!

Update: 12/27/2011

Due to popular demand, I have included the XLF file. Jumping from one top-level menu to another would be better if it could reset. This shouldn’t be impossible, but I haven’t researched this yet.

Gapminder Style Charts

Here is another go with the Inovista XY Chart add-in. A while back Kalyan Verma from MyXcelsius.com asked me about duplicating Gapminder functionality in Xcelsius. While I was able to make a crude example using stock components, I was very excited to try it again with this add-in. Just the fact that you can make the bubbles much larger is great. Combine that with multiple active triggers (both mouseover and on-click) and customizable tooltips … well, you be the judge!

NOTE:

  • Design utilizes Inovista’s XY Bubble Chart with Lines Add-In.
  • Design utilizes the Data-Ink.com custom Xcelsius theme.
  • Requires “allowFullScreen” parameter in HTML object code to load in full screen.

Tornado Charts

I’ve been working with the XY Bubble Chart with Lines add-in from Inovista and it is really amazing! It allows you to connect non-linear points and also to create charts with transparent bubbles (BonaVista Systems Style). I have created a quick population pyramid / tornado chart using the add-in to address Jorge Cameo’s blog posts on Xcelsius functionality from back in October 2007 (See blog post here).

NOTE:

  • Design utilizes Inovista’s XY Bubble Chart with Lines Add-In.
  • Design utilizes the Data-Ink.com custom Xcelsius theme.
  • Requires “allowFullScreen” parameter in HTML object code to load in full screen.

Interactive Risk Matrix

I’m working on some new techniques utilizing an interactive matrix. The following example uses overlapped XY charts to deliver individual labels but still allow for the bubbles to control a single input. I feel like it needs some work to better show which bubble is actively highlighted.

NOTE:

  • Design utilizes the Data-Ink.com custom Xcelsius theme.
  • Requires “allowFullScreen” parameter in HTML object code to load in full screen.
  • Simple TQM Dashboard

Today’s template is a simple total quality management (TQM) / Six Sigma dashboard. It is very straight forward and I haven’t incorporated any interactivity yet. The control chart is comprised of two charts (Line chart w/ alerts, and an Area chart).

    NOTE:

  • Design utilizes the Data-Ink.com custom Xcelsius theme.
  • Requires “allowFullScreen” parameter in HTML object code to load in full screen.
  • Sales Funnel Template

Check out the following Sales Funnel Dashboard template! The bottom right column chart changes as you click on the different segments of the funnel.

Please feel free to share any thoughts or comments as to how I can improve my work!
